Happy Friday!

Wishing you a great and relaxing weekend! Here are some things around the web that made me happy this week....

1: Peggy scanned in some more beautiful photos from the Banana Republic Ads, they are so... gorgeous!

2: Merrilee from Mer Meg has it going on -- you've got to see this post of the valentine's she and her little ones did. She also has a free download.

3: Have you heard of the Google Art Project? For you all of you art lovers, it is a virtual tour into some of the best museums where you can see famous and beautiful works for art. You can pretend you are walking around, you can zoom in pretty tight to see detail, it is so amazing!

Happy Weekend!

Wishing you a Happy February with colors of red and pink. What do you think about Punxsutawney Phil, will he see his shadow tomorrow? Has anyone been to the actual ceremony in Pennsylvania, I think it would be a riot. Read about it here.

Colorful Stripes by Gene Davis

Today I am deeply inspired by the artist Gene Davis. He is known for his colorful vertical striped paintings and in 1972 he created 'Franklin's Footpath,' which was at the time the world's largest painting, in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. How sweet is that?! I wish more roads looked like that! I immediately thought of this post and the staircase from this post when I saw this. He also created the first solar painting called Sun Sonata located at William and Mary which you can see below... incredible. It definitely puts me in a colorful vertical stripe mood.

Everything is going to be Amazing.

Lots of people I know had some sort of bad day this week, it must be in the water or something?! This is a great reminder. Have a great weekend everyone!

Bubbles in Paris

I'm pretty obsessed with these photographs by Melvin Sokolsky, aren't they are incredible?! What makes them even more special is that they were taken in Paris in 1963 when there wasn't Zorbs or computers to do photo alterations. Looks like all crane and pulley systems used here! These shots call for new use of my recently made-up word ... 'j'mazing'! Have you ever put two words together on accident creating a new one? What do you think of these shots? See more here. Kris Atomic

I subscribed and received my copy of Anthology Magazine quite a while ago but couldn't find it because my little daughter decided to hide it because she liked the cover so much, and rightly so... it is really pretty. Kris Atomic's did an amazing job with the cover art and all of designs are such a delight!

Top Five Friday : Favorites of the week...

These hand-dyed silk ribbons look so pretty on the monitor, I bet they are even more gorgeous in person. (via Full House)

This clip about growth and nature is in the Redwood forests by Jesse Rosten is beautifully filmed and inspiring... definitely worth a watch. There is a reverence and serenity about it.

I definitely want to order up some of these Magic Milk Straws that Joy talked about. What a great idea to flavor your milk in a fun way. (photo by Oh Joy)

I pinned this space a few weeks ago but can't stop thinking about it. See the whole space here. The mix of industrial and modern is perfection.

If you ski or board you will appreciate this tilt-shift Whistler Blackcomb video clip even more, it is quite darn amazing to see the action around the slopes in this style. (via fubiz)

I also write for the Family Style section of Babble and here are five of my posts from this week where I talk about...

Five spring trends that come back every year
The new Mac App Store
The prettiest set of Parisian puzzles
The adorable new Zoo Bookends and Zoo Tableware from Skip Hop
Some great 2011 daily planners

Have a stellar weekend dear readers!

Nintendo Art Academy update

Remember the Art Academy learning game I talked about a few weeks ago? See the previous post here. I wanted to give you a quick update and show you how fast our daughter has enhanced her skills, it is pretty neat to see how much art exploring she has been able to do. I'm impressed by how it teaches art skills like drawing a foundational sketch before you paint and how to layer colors. I took these shots throughout the last few weeks on my phone while we were in the car. It has been such a fantastic car and running the errands activity for her, that she doesn't get bored with. Who else has played around with Art Academy?

Anthropologie Christmas Window Displays 2010

Anthropologie of course had to have its separate post when it comes to window displays. They hit another home run with their various looks throughout the country this 2010 Christmas season. I love how each store has a slightly different take with their creative details.

Paul Smith + Striped Mini

Instead of the slug bug game, we play the 'Mini' game and our daughter loudly shouts "MINI" whenever we see one on the road. We miss our little ole' Mini that we used to have so when I see stuff like this ad campaign for Paul Smith kids 2011 I get a little bit nostalgic. I love the way they filled up the mini with stripes, and that it even goes on tours! How fun is that?! Talk about clever iconic marketing.

The World by Paula Scher

I've shared with you these amazing map paintings by Paula Scher before, but now the prints are on sale at 20x200. The size I would like (30x40) is a bit out of my price range, but you could snap up other map sizes for less. Although, I'm not sure why at the lower $50 range you can only buy randomly selected map sections -- so you wouldn't know what you are getting, but eh ... I guess that could be cool? Have a peek if you are interested, it is such a cool map.

Patrick Hruby + Charley Harper

Patrick Hruby has been cooking up some exciting new products for Ammo Books. There is a cool Imaginary Castle Giant Floor Puzzle, ABC is for Circus Board Book, and Memory Game all under $16. Ammo always has quality products and I really dig the bright use of colors and graphic illustrations in these! Patrick's illustrations are so much fun and would be a perfect gift for those little kidlets. I also love Ammo's new Charley Harper Nesting Blocks. Thanks for sharing these with me Ammo!

Charles LeDray

Charles LeDray
Charles LeDray

How cool are these mixed media sculptures by Charles LeDray? There is an exhibit surveying his work at the Whitney in New York City right now. I think it would be an incredible one to see! I am inspired just looking through his collection of work online, I imagine it would be pretty sweet to see in person.

On the Whitney website they explain the exhibit "celebrates both the artist’s virtuosity with materials and his uncanny manipulation of scale to create seemingly familiar objects that engage the collective memory. His techniques of sewing, carving bone, and throwing clay pots find precedents in the traditions of folk art and visionary art, yet rise to a level of unprecedented virtuosity and artistic invention."

After reading up a little more about Charles on Wikipedia, I found that we both have something very interestingly in common -- we have both worked as museum guards, haha. While in college, that was secretly one of my favorite jobs, I had oodles of time to think about art.

Cheryl Maeder

There is something mysterious and dreamy about photography that plays with focus and depth of field. These photographs almost seem like little impressionist paintings, don't you think? Beautiful! I was so happy Cheryl Maeder let me know about her dreamscapes. She will be showing in a Galerie Mark Hachem at the Place des Vosges in Paris November 17-30th.
