A little bit of everything

This weekend somehow managed to be packed full and lazy at the same time. I'm not sure how that happens, but it makes the weekend feel nice and long, so I'll take it.
Some highlights...
aug 2-3
  • Big fluffy lisianthus from the farmer's market in my newish milk glass vase that I picked up at my favorite antique mall last month.
  • A good trip to the library (I made it through The Spellman Files in one day and I'm currently tearing through Comfort Me with Apples).
  • Some thrifted fabrics from Goodwill - I'm starting to think about Christmas gifts and these were purchased with a special project in mind.
  • Mango salsa! No real recipe. Mangoes + tomatoes + red onion + a chili pepper + cilantro + salt + pepper + a dash of vinegar.
  • Lots of good tea both mornings, drunk in bed while reading.
  • Super cute sailor pants from the Anthro sale. Naturally, they have to get some serious hemming, but they were a good find. Love the sale room at the 3rd street Anthro.

Ban.do

Holy Guacamole! (can I say that without sounding silly?) The talented Jen Gotch is up to something fabulous again. Check out ban.do a headband line she and her friend Jamie launched today, and the word is rapidly spreading... yay! I bet you we will see these beauties in multiple magazines soon, because headbands are the new 'it' thing, right? They are a gorgeous idea for perhaps a 'bride to be'.

Lee Jenkins Photography

I am in love with the photographic work of Lee Jenkins. It pretty much blows my mind on how many fantastic shots are in his portfolio. The rich color, contrast, and high action feeling in his work is particularly intriguing, and how did they take those above first 3 shots... ideas?

Lemon bars

Check out these lemon bars and recipe that Stephanie made, they look scrumptious. Lemon bars are so summer-licious.. don't you think?

*On a side note, has anyone ever made Sweet potato cake? I'm looking for a tried and true recipe. We had some while we were traveling and upon consumption, it immediately became a new favorite. It is similar to carrot cake but a lot more moist.

Waitrose Honey

This honey branding designed by Turner Duckworth is quite brilliant, simple and well done. It has been on my board for a few months now, but I also recently saw it here.

welcome!

Welcome to the inaugural blog of inBloom Studio and inBloom Productions! We are 'sister' companies (literally...we are actually three sisters!) who have an eye for detail and design. We offer the full package, from graphic and web design services to event planning and event design! We will be posting design and event-related eye candy and ideas up here so be sure to check back.

I'll start this blog with an entertaining idea I love, snipped from a BHG Quick and Easy Decorating mag. Simple but graphically striking - a placecard that is simply a polaroid photo of the sky, with the guest's name scrolled on the bottom. Even if you are lucky enough to have a vintage polaroid camera, sadly the film is being discontinued (help save polaroid!) but this look can be easily re-created by cropping a photo of the sky (or whatever) into a square using your computer's photo editing software, printing it on your home printer, and then cutting it into the shape of a polaroid pic (leave a white border on all sides - just make sure to leave a longer border at the bottom). Scribble your guest's name on the bottom and voila! You are crafty and graphic designy and host extraordinaire...

See you back here soon!

Happy Hour at Border Grill

What with all the vacationing, and thinking I was going to die from a mysterious vacation induced illness, it's been a while since I had a chance to catch up with Em (whose lovely blog is what inspired me to start my own) and we've both really missed our usual weekly girls' night. So we decided to meet immediately after work and hit up one of our absolute favorite happy hour spots - the Border Grill in Santa Monica.

We both booked it to the restaurant because you have to get your happy hour order in before 7 pm. I knew I would break down into a hysterical mess if I missed my green corn tamales, so I battered my way out of my office a little bit early, ignoring my coworker's attempts to delay me. It was so worth it.

Excellent food and drinks + several hours of talking and laughing with your best friend = a really good Thursday night.
