When I told the boys…Frank, Rob and the guys on the floor crew what movie I saw this weekend – they were like…”oh that sounds awful.”

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief was far from it. I know it’s not going to be a box office hit or win any awards, but I thought it was a fun movie. I enjoyed the story line and special effects. That being said...it was geared towards tweens and some parts were cheesy.

Percy Jackson is a high school student discovers he’s the son of a Greek God and sets out on an adventure. There were some big names that had small roles – Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson and Uma Thurman.

Sometimes you leave a movie feeling inspired, sad or amazed. This movie was not that…it just made me smile and laugh. Sometimes we all need that…..

Remember that awesome Kindle ad? Well the director Angela Kohler sent me a beautiful clip of her and her boyfriend Ithyle Griffiths latest work -- a little short stop-motion film with their friend Alison from A Fine Frenzy. Beautiful and impeccably well done.

The weekend, briefly

Bouts of torrential rain this weekend. Perfect for napping. I took three naps on Saturday alone, which basically means I woke up a couple times during the day and managed to stay awake for an hour or so. I was a bit more productive on Sunday.

First, Look At These Pictures, SUNSHINE!!

I will be honest I am not feeling it today! I am kinda of sluggish for a Monday morning, plus leaving for vacation on Wednesday, so can I just phone it in the next two days?

Mother nature is not helping either this morning, cloudy and gray, for the first day of March. Plus, we are coming off the snowiest February ever, and we are now number 5 for snowiest seasons ever in Cincinnati, at 38 inches.

One sign of hope and warm weather is that Reds opening day is just about a month away on April 5th. Today at 11am I will be joining Steve and Pat at Great American Ball Park, for a promo shoot, for FOX19'S Reds Weather Day on May 5th. Wish we had some more sunshine for our promo shoot, but sooner or later sun will shine!

This is a great event for school kids and families all across the Tri-State. We had our first one last year and had over 4,000 kids attend. Your Storm Tracker Forecast Team, present a 45min weather presentation with live weather experiments, trivia, videos using the HUGE HD scoreboard, and lots of surprises. Then after the presentation the kids stay and watch our Reds take on the New York Mets. It's a great educational day plus it's a lot of fun. Yes, Haiti is Alive

This weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to hostess UC's Haiti Alive Benefit, with proceeds going directly to the Restavek Foundation.

If you haven't yet heard of this wonderful charity, please allow me to tell you more.

The Restavek Foundation raises awareness about children who are in virtual child slavery in Haiti. Even before the devastating earthquake, this wonderful organization had been giving a voice to so many children who would not otherwise be heard. It was founded by Jean-Robert Cadet, an amazing man who overcame his own childhood in slavery. Against all odds, he came to the US, got an education, and has now devoted much of his life to helping others. Cadet lives here in Cincinnati, and travels all over the US to tell people about his experiences and the suffering of these kids.

The Haiti Alive Benefit was a joy for me to emcee. Not only did it educate me more on the proud culture and heritage of Haiti, I truly felt excited to see such a worthy organization being supported by our community. Through the night, we heard songs, poetry, and stories about Haiti. A silent auction also took place, as well as performances by the Cincinnati Black Theater Company and several other local musicians.

I left the night so happy and honored to have been a part of it.

I was even more thrilled when I heard this: at least $10,000 was raised for the foundation!

Shepard Fairey at CAC

Checked out the CAC last week and decided that would be the subject of today's blog.

I didn't know much about Shepard Fairey's work before last Thursday. I was familiar with the image he created of President Obama with the word "Hope." He's much more than that.

My knowledge of art is minimal. I took an art appreciation class in college. I didn't do that well. It was at 8:10 in the morning. I knew I needed help maneuvering through the exhibit. So I turned to meteorologist Frank Marzullo. Not for his help, but help from his brother Nick, an artist and art dealer living in Chicago. Nick was able to explain us how Fairey went from a street artist to an artist who creates pieces that call for social change.

Fairey has also put up seven murals in and around Cincinnati to generate interest in his exhibit. He will be back in May to put up more murals and will DJ at the CAC's fundraising street party on May 22. The exhibit runs through August 22nd. Check it out.

BTW, I tried to take a picture of Frank's brother for this entry, but got the feeling he would refuse. He's unlike Frank who has never met a camera he didn't like.

Ludlow Knights of Columbus Fish Fry

Hi, it's Sheila.
I enjoyed great food and catching up with friends Friday night at the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry in Ludlow. My buddy Tim Lenihan and all of the gentlemen there work hard every Lent to offer delicious food at an affordable price, and there's never a shortage of good conversation. Tim told me the beer battered cod on their menu is the same one a lot of Northern Kentucky restaurants serve, and you can't beat the price. It's $6.75 for a set-up, which means along with the delicious fish, you get cole slaw and your choice of fries, onion rings, or tasty mac and cheese. Best of all, my husband Ric and I always have the chance to catch up with good friends. Fish fries are a long standing tradition all over Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, and we every year we make sure to hit this one. It's great food served with a smile every Friday during Lent.
