adventures of miss cuppie: the cupcake shoppe

After a brief hiatus, Miss Cuppie is back! Doing some Christmas shopping in the Yonge and Eglinton area yesterday, I decided to try out a cuppie at The Cupcake Shoppe, a cute little cupcakery with tons of deliciously decorated treats. Now I should let you know - yesterday was a sunny but frigid day in Toronto and in the morning I think the temps were around -20 degrees Celsius with the windchill. So with fingers too frozen to snap a pic of the storefront, I instead included a cute illustration from The Cupcake Shoppe's sweet website. I also nabbed a photo of their cuppies from their website too...it is just so much better than a photo I could take with my point-and-shoot!

I ended up buying two Christmassy, candy cane-topped cuppies for my hubby P. and I which we scarfed down after dinner last night. And the verdict? The icing was so-so {kind of bland} but the cake part moist and delish! I also decided that Miss Cuppie is much more fun when #1, it's a touch warmer outside, and #2 you are taste testing with a buddy. Anyone want to join me next time around?

next stop for miss cuppie: the cupcakery

Miss Cuppie was at it again, and this time I checked out the cupcake goodness at The Cupcakery, near St. Clair and Dufferin in Toronto.

Again, I was really impressed with the sweet decor of this cupcake shop! I loved the pink and black touches, the displays, and the marvellously {is that a word?} coloured icing in bright blues, pinks, and yellows. And were the cuppies delish? You bet ya! I chose a chocolatey treat with caramel icing and was really quite in love. I even bought half a dozen lemon poppyseed cuppies for a cute yellow table design we did on the weekend. The store owned was very sweet and gracious as well.
I'll give The Cupcakery 5 out of 5 blooms across the board for all of the important cupcake criteria - visual appeal, eatability and tastiness! Is there really such a thing as a bad cupcake? And the store owner will get 5 out of 5 blooms for niceness too.

If you have any cupcake shop suggestions in and around Toronto, let me know and I will add it to my list!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

miss cuppie has a taste test! first stop: flour

This Bloomer has become Miss Cuppie for the next few weeks! I thought it would be a fun {and delicious} adventure to taste test at some of the wonderful cupcake shops in Toronto, and then report back here. Fun idea, hey? For my inaugural taste test, I chose a charming little shop at Eglinton and Bathurst called Flour which intrigued me with their wares: cupcakes, cakes and flowers...a bloomer's dream combination! And a clever store name too.

Flour is adorable and beautifully decorated with sweet little touches. It was very difficult to choose a cupcake to taste test, as there were so many good ones! As a cocoa addict, I chose a chocolate ganache cuppie. You just can't go wrong with ganache.

Score card:
Visual appeal of cuppie = 5/5 blooms
Eatability {was it easy to eat or did it fall apart and crumble down the front of my new jacket} = 5/5 blooms
Cuppie tastiness = 5/5 blooms
Frosting tastiness = 5/5 blooms...it's ganache
Loveliness of store = 5/5 blooms
Unexpected extra = you can pick up some fleurs while you are there! Also it looks like they make lovely wedding cakes too.

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll be seeing a lot of 5/5 blooms on this adventure?! Stay tuned for Miss Cuppie's next taste test, coming soon...

cupcake greatness

The Bloomers love a cuppie...well that's no secret! But what the Bloomers love even more is enjoying a cuppie in a beautifully designed location. H e a v e n.

Check out the digs of Enjoy Cupcakes, in California. Their location is as delightful for the eyes, as their cupcakes are for the tastebuds {or in our case tasteblooms!}.
And once again I am smitten with the vintage trailer that owner Amber Vander Vliet uses for events and farmer's markets - much like this little cutie. Ah trailer envy.

Hope you are able to enjoy a cuppie this weekend! Have a good one!

happy birthday...

...to my mom. She would have been 62 today. This is a photo of her not on her 17th birthday {I'm guessing we couldn't locate any other candles that day!}. My mom also loved cupcakes, so I bought this pretty one for her. And I will abandon my wheat-free diet for tonight and devour it on her behalf.

Enjoy a wonderful treat for my mom today...and don't forget to give your mom a hug! Happy weekend...

loverly baking cups

I saw this picture of muffin wrappers on Design Sponge, and I thought it was stunning! How can a picture of muffin wrappers pierce one's heart? Alas it did. I love the brown, muted exotic colour combination. Apparently, the chef, Sabra Krock, bought some of them in Israel. I'm definitely going to pick up a cup or two on my trip to Israel in August. Apparently some of them are also from this website - it has some really cool stuff if you look hard. Here are some of my favs:
