Farmhouse Style Architecture

Today I am inspired by farmhouse style modern houses. I've often loved the idea of restoring or living in a farmhouse or barn that has been modernized. All of these are designed by Vermont based architectural firm Birdseye Design.

How fun and magical does this wellness hotel Rogner Bad Blumau in Austria look to stay at? Designed by artist/architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Wouldn't you like to see that Dead Sea Salt Spa room in person?

House in a Hill : Villa Vals

One of my favorite childhood books was about various animal architects that made these really sweet houses. I remember looking at it over and over again and wanting to live in one of their cool animal house creations - whether it was up in a tree, near a marsh or in a hill. (I wish I knew the title of the book -- I will have to ask if my mom remembers.)



Anyways, when I saw this 'house inside of a hill' at mi casa es su casa, I was flabbergasted at how close it comes to one of my most favorite houses in that book, I really can't believe it!



This place called, 'Villa Vals' is situated in Switzerland with stunning alpine surroundings, and is designed by Christian Müller Architects and SeARCH. What is even more fantastic is that you can actually stay here, what a amazing retreat that would be! Learn more about it here and see more incredible photos here.

Tree Hotel

Check out this camouflaged refuge/tree house in the sky designed by Tham & Videgard Arkitekter that opens as part of a Treehotel in Sweeden! At first I thought it was a photoshop job -- but I guess it isn't. Wow -- talk about blending right into nature! Love it. I enjoy it when my husband sends me awesome links -- and today we are off to celebrate his birthday! Check out more options like the ones below from their website. The Cliff House

Ooh la la... check out this Cliff House in India by Khosla Associates. Who wouldn't want to spend some time in that pool? Insanely cool, no? The rest of the house is just as amazing.

Modern Cabin

Wow! What a place this would be to relax and getaway. This modern cabin is called the Chicken Point Cabin and is located in Northern Idaho. Low maintenance materials were used and the space is intended to be a seamless extension to the natural setting. What a beauty! I can't get over that revolving wall of windows. It is designed by Olson Kundig Architects. (via the Contemporist)
