Derby Eve

Hi friends, Meghan here.

I didn't get to go to the Kentucky Derby but I did the next best thing. Thanks to my friends Jim Murphy and Kathy Myers I went down on Friday night for all the fun.

What an experience! I had a ball seeing the celebs like Ruben Studdard from American Idol and Avatar actor Joel Moore (he is not the other guy in the pix - that was a friend of ours..Andy). We hung out at Jeff Ruby's Louisville Restaurant and walked through 4th Street Live (it was packed).

Then Saturday I watched the race from Turfway Park. There was a lot of people enjoying the race from inside - it would have been a rainy and muddy day at Churchill Downs. The Naked Karate Girls played and had a best hat contest.

I picked horse 14 - as you know - I was a loser! But I'd BET a lot of you were too:) If not Congrats!!!

The weekend, briefly

Barely moved from the living room this weekend, steadily sewing up orders. Watched the entire first season of Friday Night Lights, which proved to be great company, even though I still don't understand football.

The dining room table tends to end up as my central workstation/listmaking area.

Soccer Coach Marzullo

Marzullo Here...
What a wet weekend, but no matter if you ran the Flying Pig or if your kids had baseball or soccer, chances are you got your outdoor fitness in, but probably are a bit soggy this morning. I spent the weekend up in Cleveland at my mom and dads, I wanted to spend a early mothers day with mom, because I will not make it home this coming weekend. In addition to some family bonding I spent Saturday as Coach Marzullo! I think coach is stretching it a bit, but I kinda of want to sound important!! My best friend from High School, Inger and her husband Paulo, have two of the cutest kids ever, Cooper and Sullivan. There son Cooper is 4 years old and he calls me Uncle Frank, he also calls me Chio Frank, he is bilingual at 4 speaking his fathers native language of Portuguese. I am kinda of jealous of the kid, because it took me two trys to pass Spanish 2 at the college level!! Anyway, his father is his soccer coach and I was able to assit on Saturday morning. Now mind you the kids are only 4 so it basically is a chance for them to be active and learn to work as a team, the bottom line is that they do not keep score. However, I still wanted a win, so I had the kids run 60 laps around the field, drop and give me 50 push ups, and 300 jumping jacks. I then told them if they did not score 4 or more points then no after game snack!! JUST KIDDING OF COURSE!! We actually had a good snack afterwards, went to Brio for some pasta!! It was fun to watch my buddy Cooper and his friends run up and down the field it reminded me of the days of when I played soccer as a child. However, once I got down to one end of the field the entire team was running the other direction, so I would get tired pretty quickly and for some reason my uniform was never dirty!!

Have A Great Day

The Flying Pig Marathon

I decided not to run the "pig" this year.
Good Monday morning. Rob here.

The flying pig is my favorite marathon. The crowd support is fantastic especially when you hit Hyde Park Square.
I wasn't running this year but wanted to cheer on the runners. I decided to plant myself in front of the Krohn Conservatory. I think the hardest part of the entire marathon is up Gilbert and through the park. It is almost all up hill. However, by the time you hit the conservatory, you are almost to the top of the hill. I thought this would be a great place to cheer on runners.

I was on the lookout for Chris and Lance. They help train people with the City Gospel Mission in Other-the-Rhine. Here's a story I did on them and the group. http://tinyurl.com/39bdhwb

I was also looking out for my trainer John, and 3 friends who work with the Reds, Corey, Ryan and Zach. They looked strong. Wet but strong. Corey and Zach ran the half pig. Ryan ran the whole thing. His first marathon. Cheering in the rain was tough, so hats off to all the people who did the pig this year.

Oh yeah, "Elvis" was up the street from us performing. The runners all really seemed to like him. However it doesn't take much to entertain marathoners who are looking for any kind of distractions.

Kindermusik

It's been said that music tames the savage beast. It's not bad for toddlers either.
Hi, Sheila here. I enrolled my son Eric in Kindermusik classes when he was around 18 months old, and it quickly became one of his favorite things to do. Now he's nearly three, and he loves that weekly time with Miss Linda and his friends.

There is a lot of research which shows music can help children with math skills and discipline, and the Kindermusik classes are tailored to help toddlers with things like language and self control. For Eric and me, it's just plain fun. I can't think of too many things that are funnier or cuter than watching a bunch of two-year-old's learning to play simple instruments, singing and dancing to "The Wheels on the Bus," or having a parade with drums that are just their size. Sometimes the drum sticks don't quite make it onto the drum head. Some of the children are already pros at the parade wave!

Miss Linda usually reads the children a story while they sit on her "froggy blanket," and they all grab a piece of it when it's time to put it away (yes, 10 kids all carrying one blanket). It's sweet to see how much they love helping. One day Eric and I were driving home from our class, talking about what we had done that day, and Eric sighed, "I love Miss Linda."
Our last class of spring was last week, and we will miss that weekly date with our friends. Linda Kohlhepp is the teacher of our class in Erlanger, but Kindermusik has teachers and classes all over the tri-state. You can find out more about the classes and locate one near you at http://www.kindermusik.com/

bookmarks can be cool

I'm love love loving these grassy page markers! Innovative and attractive - so much better than the random tissues we seem to use at our house to mark our pages :). From the Yuruliku Online Shop.
